About Dr. Yu

Credentials:

Dr. Dingfang Yu, is a Licensed Acupuncturist in the State of Washington and a practitioner of Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM).  He is also an Acupuncture Diplomate of the National Certification Commission for Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine (NCCAOM).

Education:

Dr. Yu graduated from:

• Taizhou University Medical School (formerly known as Taizhou Health School) in China with a major in TCM in 1983.
• Zhejiang Chinese Medical University (formerly known as Zhejiang College of Traditional Chinese Medicine) in China with a major in Acupuncture and Moxibustion in 1992.
• Bastyr University in Seattle, WA with a Master’s of Science Degree in Acupuncture in 2007.

Experience:

In China, Dr. Yu worked as a TCM practitioner and acupuncturist in the Acupuncture & Moxibustion Department in Huzhou Central Hospital (formerly known as the People’s Hospital of Jiaxing District and the 2nd People’s Hospital of Huzhou) and was the acting director in the Rehabilitation Department from 1983 to 1996.  During that period, he collaborated with many departments on clinical trials to develop cross-disciplinary treatment protocols such as with:

• Pediatrics on using Medicinal Vesiculating Moxibustion to treat Asthma during summer months
• Intensive Care Unit (ICU) on using combined body acupuncture with scalp acupuncture to treat Hemiplegia due to CVA once patients became stabilized from the critical stage
• The Surgery Department on using auricular acupuncture combined with Chinese herb decoction to treat gallbladder stones and kidney stones
• Obstetrics on using acupuncture to treat post partum urinary retention
• Orthopedics on using acupuncture to treat the symptoms of prolapsed vertebral discs
• Ophthalogy on using Acupuncture to treat some eye diseases
• Gynecology on using acupuncture combined with Chinese herbs to treat dysmenorrhea (menstrual cramps), menopausal syndrome and infertilities
• Urology on using acupuncture to treat erectile dysfunction
• Oncology on using acupuncture to support the body’s immune system and treat the side effects of chemotherapy and radiotherapy 

As a result of these cross-departmental efforts, Dr. Yu and his colleagues helped patients significantly shorten their recovery times, significantly reduce their medical expenses and, in come cases, avoid surgery altogether. 
After leaving China in the end of 1996, Dr. Yu worked as an Acupuncturist in Kuwait for 5 years in a private health care center, which was part of a fitness facility.  Here he mainly treated patients with sports related problems, such as muscle and joints injuries, pain, arthritis, frozen shoulders, obesity, prolapsed vertebral discs, and stress, etc.
Dr. Yu came to the United States in the end of 2001.  Here he received additional training in the fields of immune system wellness care for HIV and AIDS patients and cessation and detoxification for drug and alcohol abuse and smoking.
